Best of What’s New in SolidWorks 2013

Let’s start with the enhancements that SolidWorks users appreciated or liked most during the SolidWorks Innovation Day. Out of 200+ enhancements in SolidWorks 2013, presenters at Innovation day tried to cover maximum within the given time slot during event. In this post let’s cover what influenced users most, those features which have an impacts on the day to day working of design engineers. Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp not only makes enhancements in their MCAD program but also add new tools to their data management, simulation software every year.

View Selector: Previous versions of SolidWorks already have a quick access to commonly used front, side and isometric views. This feature would add up to make users life much easier. Hitting spacebar the orientation dialog comes up, it has ‘View Selector’ option that switches the model into a wireframe cube from which standard views can be selected with various angles. The View Selector option can be turned ON/OFF by hitting button or using Ctrl+spacebar.

Center of Mass: This new feature has ability to include CG in mass properties calculations. User can see a point on the part, can add reference points. Any change in the part reflects by change in CG location accordingly. It is easy to update it at drawing and assembly level.

Quick Filter: This is a big time saver for users; it quickly filter the type of file required like part, assembly, drawing or combination. It also provides quick access to top-level assemblies.

SolidWorks Costing: This tool now calculates the cost required to manufacture a turned part.

Assembly:

Breaking All External References:  It was very tedious job while working with previous releases. Now there is no need for user to go through each part killing references. The feature allows user to break all external references in an entire assembly hierarchy or subassembly at once.

Any Component as Envelope: Sometimes designers add some part of assembly for the sake of reference. But, it sometimes misleads to error in calculation of center of mass also it might start an argument between client and vendor for not delivering all the items included in drawing. In SW 2013 user can now set any part or assembly in an envelope. This is great way to exclude required components. Components are automatically excluded from BOM in drawing. New options let you adjust envelope visibility and load envelopes as lightweight or read-only.

Intersect: When working with complex models one can use this command to add and subtract materials at the same time by intersecting solids, surfaces, and/or planes. It performs multiple solid geometry interactions simultaneously.

 Administration:

SolidWorks CAD Admin Dashboard: This enhancement is for CAD managers, they can now directly monitor the performance, hardware/machine configuration of SolidWorks users at a glance. It can be accessed from anywhere through the SolidWorks Customer Portal.

Parts and Features:

Varying Dimension Patterns: This tool allows users to vary dimension and locations while creating pattern. This speedy tool automatically varies spacing, length and width of the part features. Also, allows user to modify individual instances as they wish.

Sketching:

Conic Curves: Most MCAD programs use spline curves from surface modeling to draw irregular shapes. In SolidWorks 2013, it let user draw elliptical, parabolic or hyperbolic curves using Conic sketcher, that are driven by end points and rho value.
Drawings and Detailing:

Section Views:  The new options in SW 2013 allow users to create production drawing faster with more consistent section views, aligned section views, and half section views on a drawing.  Supports ASME, ISO, and other standards.

Simulation:

Submodeling: This feature allows user to improve the results at critical areas without having to rerun the analysis for the whole model. Refining the mesh for a selected portion of the model and rerunning the analysis for specific areas of large and complex models saves computation time.

Overall 2013 is a solid release. Stay tuned for more on SolidWorks 2013 articles!

SolidWorks Innovation Day 2013 – Explore What You Can Get From MCAD Tools!

Few, days back I attended SolidWorks Innovation Day 2013 in Bangalore and Pune.  This year Indian professionals were fortunate to get glimpse of SW 2013 before the US and European users, much before SolidWorks 2013 SP0 was announced. This was because of festive season ‘Diwali’.coming close.

BEACON Event Bangalore

I am attending Innovation day events since 2009. I can see that the SolidWorks user’s community in India is growing rapidly every year. Numbers of delegates are doubled each year. SolidWorks has so much to offer in form of new features, new tools, add-ons and case studies that a full day event seems to be very small to present all this stuff. Every year,  I find some presenter saying that this year’s release is best ever SW version, but again next year more 200+ features comes with the next version, proving the previous year’s statement wrong. The attendees are very much surprised to see lot of development in the latest version.
I caught up one of my friend in the event, their company is using version 2011 and they are extremely happy with the package, they rarely come across a situation where they do not find any feature in SolidWorks to help them out to design a particular object. This might be because the SolidWorks takes care of every customer request they receive since last 15 years.

Innovation day event are not just to listen to what’s new in latest version but gives networking opportunity to design professionals from various industries. There are very good key note presentations by renowned industry speakers. Resellers offer hands on test drive of latest package, lot of offers on products and hardware announced during event.

Short overview on the events attended.

SolidWorks Innovation Day 2013 – Bangalore by BEACON

The key note speaker was Dr. N Ramani. He talked about the break through innovations in India. It was nice to know about the TVS Luna’s importance and world's thinnest watch by Titan. Many time when we talk about innovation the companies like apple, sony, google come in our mind and we do not think of the innovations that happened next to us in India.

TVS developed a two seater moped in house from scratch, Titan developed world’s slimmest watch, just 3.5 mm thick when Swiss watch makers find it impossible and BOSCH Bangalore developed PF pumps which are more efficient then CRDi pumps.

Mr. Subba Bangera  MD Sidel India

The next, guest speaker was Mr. Subba Bangera, Managing Director, Sidel India. Sidel India is 100% subsidiary owned by Sidel SA, a group of Tetra laval. Sidel’s 26 worldwide plants use only SolidWorks to design their products. He gave an overview on how the company develops innovative packaging PET solutions for various cold drinks, beverage industry in India using SolidWorks. I never thought   a bottle of ‘appy’ is designed using SolidWorks. Just amazing!

Afterwards, Mr. Ravi Varadarajan, Sr. Country Technical Manager, SolidWorks Corporation India talked on SolidWorks 2013 and Beyond.  Its seventeen year journey for a company focusing on usability, reliability and user needs.  He asked attendees to send the enhancement request if any and SolidWorks would take care to add requested feature in future versions. SolidWorks today have around 1,878,300 users worldwide. The number of educational users are also too large with 407 VARs and 218 users group.

Mr. Ravi Varadarajan, SolidWorks India

Now, SolidWorks is offered in many engineering colleges in India as a part of curriculum. FE to BE students are using it to do their academic projects. SolidWorks has appointed re-sellers for the educational sectors which take care of training the faculty members of colleges to teach SolidWorks in better way to students. SolidWorks has plans introduce their tools at school level, like what they did in US and Europe.

This year SolidWorks Plastics, Electrical and eDrawing for ipad are introduced. The future generation SolidWorks may be on-cloud, with powerful 3D experience, extreme modeling flexibility and more.
After break, there was technical session on SWX 2013 from Mr. Rajgopal Y G, Technical Manager, BEACON & Mr. Praveen. A, Technical Manager, BEACON

There are more than 200 enhancements in SW 13; it is not at all possible to cover all the new features in one session. But, they tried best to cover maximum. I liked previous release interoperability, Intersect feature, varying dimension pattern, CAD Administrator dashboard, costing enhancement.  I will cover the most liked features in next blog post.

The BEACON’s Bangalore event has around 700 attendees witnessing the launch of SolidWorks 2013 at  ITC GARDENIA .

Again of Oct 5, 2012 I attended SolidWorks VAR BEACON’s Pune event. There were more than 250 attendees present for the event. The guest speakers here was Mr. Varadharajen Lakshmanan Managing Director - Bray India & South East Asia and Mr. Govind Hublikar, Director of Engineering, Emerson Innovation Center.
BEACON Pune Event
Good to know few more enhancements in SolidWorks 2013 presented by Mr. Mubashir Ahmed, Mr. Vishal Surwade, Sr. Consultant Technical, BEACON. Mr.Joseph Jerome, CEO, BEACON has announced some big offer for Pune audience, check this video and call Mr. Ashish to know more about it.
There were very good partner presentations from Mr.Mandar Parkhi-Director-Mark Design Solutions on Design Automation with CADECplus, Inspection geni, and SolidCAM.

And on Oct 9, 2012 I attended Pelf infotech’s event in Pune. There were around 350 attendees present. Good to brush up what’s new in SolidWorks 2013. I attended this event not for knowing what’s in SolidWorks 2013 but to meet SolidWorks users, feel very happy to know their passion for the creating innovative products, learning new tools.

Pelf Infotech is also very active SW VAR in west region, with constant demand from their clients they have developed an add-in for SolidWorks called Pro Designer used to quickly create, modify and manage piping and instrumentation diagrams and process flow diagrams. Mr. Sanjay Phadake of Pelf gave very good demo of the product. The product is very useful for oil and gas, power generation, chemical, food and beverage industries.
Pelf Infotech Pune Event

Event sponsors Lenovo, AMD and 3Dconnection presentations were awesome. Breaking news I got in event was that Lenovo passes HP for Number One in PC business. Lenovo now offer certified workstations for CAD applications.

One thing I notice that the attendees present in event were not just the young professionals but also the senior old guys representing their company as directors, CEOs, partners. It was nice to see their interest levels and passion to create better products using latest technologies.

For those who missed the Innovation Day events this time can stay updated by joining SolidWorks India website http://fans.solidworks.in or join the newsletter from the VARs near to you.

Overall, Innovation days are GREAT event. The passion level amongst attendees is at its best I’ve seen in SolidWorks events. Everyone at the event liked SolidWorks 2013 enhancements. My personal opinion is that it is the best release ever!

Stay tuned….more articles on SolidWorks 2013 to come!

India - an Integral Part of PTC's R&D Ecosystem

On September 11, 2012 I got chance to visit PTC R&D center Pune, India for the press conference.  This was for first time I visited PTC development center, the building was quite impressive, looks like some 3D Assembly! It was nice to see many of the media folks that I only get to see at CAD events, automotive and manufacturing expos. The purpose of this conference was not just to give an overview on PTC’s product line but aim was to introduce R&D Pune center, its activities to world.

PTC Software (India) Pvt. Ltd. Marisoft

The day started off with Jeffery W. Wilmot, Country Manager for India and Senior Vice President of product lifecycle, delivering the keynote, “PTC’s Initiatives”.  The theme was:

‘Delivering product and service advantage’

As a CAD user and customer, it is always good to see the priorities and commitments of company towards customer.

Jeff was appointed as new SVP, Country Manager for India in May 2012. He works from Bangalore office. It was very good opportunity for us to interact with him to know his views on various fronts. His prior experience is with US market but looks very passionate to work in India. He sees tremendous growth potential here; and said “India has always been a major focus area for PTC”

With a focus on resolving customer problems, he gave an overview on the company’s approach in solving challenges using process expertise, technology and following customer centric engagement model.
Furthermore, he gave information on company’s global presence. Anybody reading this post would be exultant to see the global figures.

6100 employees in 30 countries around the world
1950 R&D employees
1375 service professionals
27, 000+ active customers
1,193, 000+ Windchill users
1,566,000+ total active seats

It was nice to know that 42% of R&D employees work from Pune, India and it is the biggest R&D center among the 18 global R&D locations worldwide. “Our success so far in India is indicative of the tremendous growth and opportunity that we see in the Indian design and engineering industry”, said Jeffery W. Wilmot
In last couple of years, Pune has emerged as the best choice for outsourcing R&D work for American and European corporations due to availability of English speaking educated, skilled manpower.  Also, there are many small innovative companies who have created an ecosystem for research excellence.

Pune is the focal point for India's CAD, CAM and CAE activity. PTC is not only the company hosting its development center here but there are many renowned CAD vendors like Geometric  Global, Autodesk, Bentley, Tata Technologies, 3dplm, Delcam, Altair, Ansys and Siemens PLM having their development centers here. Today, there are more than 5000 CAD, CAM and CAE software developers here.
“We are doing excellent business in India this year, no matter what media talks about the down economy and manufacturing sector growth” said Mr. Jeff

Mr. Venkateswaran Pazhambalacode, Jeffery W. Wilmot and Dr. Rajiv Agarwal

He concluded his presentation by giving overview on PTC’s academic initiatives and social activities.
Next to take over the stage was Mr. Venkateswaran Pazhambalacode, VP Software development.

His name was not new to me, I often heard about him from my friends working in R&D. He is very active person involved in software development activities of almost all PTC products for last 18 years. He looks after the product management, development, testing and release management teams. He joined Computer Vision in 1994 and got into PTC, when it acquired Computer Vision in Jan 1998.

It was really great feeling to know the growth story of the company in India from Mr. Venkateswaran who is with the company all these years.  “Company started with 180 employees in 1998, today we have reached to 750 employees in Pune” said Mr. Venkateswaran

He gave brief intro about the software lifecycle evolution at R&D. Company has developed its own standards to make world class innovative products.  “I feel very proud to tell that the products like Creo, Windchill and Arbotext are developed at our facility in Pune” said Mr.Venkateshwaran

The company has around 400 professionals for Windchill development in India. The leading automotive manufacturers and home appliances manufacturers worldwide manages their product development and business processes throughout life cycle with the Windchill certifies the quality product developed by R&D team.

42% of PTC’s total R&D professionals are Indians. In 2004 company shifted to Marisoft facility and later added Weikfield IT CITI Info Park facility in 2006. Today, 348 employees work from Marisoft and 348 from Weikfield. There is also a small team of 33 professionals working from Hyderabad.
“Our employees are biggest asset for us; we have around 100 employees with more than 10 years of experience with PTC” said Mr. Venkateswaran

Just outstanding!

Nice to know about so many employees working with a single organization for more than 10 years. Company has best talents working in R&D, it’s a gossip in CAD developers community that cracking an interview in PTC is much difficult than other CAD vendors working from India. PTC offers competitive packages along with the world class facilities and workspace.

Dr. Rajiv Agarwal, VP Software development was up next to introduce company’s social and academic activities. . He manages all the development and quality assurance activities for PTC’s Creo software product line.

It was nice to know the overwhelming response to FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge India Robotic Competition last year.

FIRST Tech challenge is really very good initiative by company. It gives students an opportunity to exhibit and sharpen their creative talent under the supervision of industry experts while providing an international platform for students who wish to contribute and excel in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Basic training on Creo, Mathcad and Windchill is given to participants to develop a working model of robot with guidance from mentors.

This year’s FIRST challenge is announced. More than 50 volunteers from PTC Pune have already registered to guide students for the forthcoming competition. Class VIII and IX School students throughout country participate in building and programming the robot.  The winners here are given chance to compete at world event.

FIRST website, visit for details http://www.ptc.com/company/community/first/index.htm

PTC also, offers around fifty internship for engineering students every year.   Internship period vary from 6 months to 1 year. Large percentage of interns turns to employees.

                                                                      With speakers

Overall, it was a remarkable event. Building great products depends on great people. Really good to know the more about PTC’s R&D facility and happy to know about India’s contribution to CAD world!

An Interview with Kaustubh Nande, Manager - Marketing at ANSYS

I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Kaustubh Nande, marketing manager ANSYS. In India, company has its sales headquarter in Bengaluru and offices in Pune, Noida, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai. Almost every design professional is aware of the unmatched contribution of ANSYS in the engineering simulation field. I have not seen any company in design space that has such a large product range with solutions for every industry.
ANSYS tops the vendors list in the CAE, FEA, CFD and electronics simulations markets worldwide. Company serves a wide range of industries with both high-end multiphysics applications and easy-to-use products designed to work with CAD applications such as Inventor, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Creo along with the support to a neutral file formats.

Coming back to Dr. Nande’s profile. He is working with ANSYS since two years as marketing manager. He has experience in field and corporate marketing, public relations, academia, and consulting. He holds a doctorate degree and has worked as academic associate at IIM Ahmedabad, as a teaching associate at Ohio University & as a full-time faculty at Towson University in USA. Here is the interview.

Could you please update about ANSYS engineering operations and developments in India?

Sure, we have a good presence in several industries in India. Automotive, Aerospace & Defense, Oil & Gas and Energy sectors are important industries for growth in India. We serve our customers through our sales offices located across the country.

How did ANSYS manage it’s business during recession?

There's no success script for running a company in a historic downturn, we too experienced some slowdown for a while in India. However, overall we fared well and reported revenue growth in 2011.

What are your views on analysis software developed by CAD vendors?

Most CAD vendors provide CAD integrated basic simulation tools to their customers. These tools are often used by CAD engineers to do very basic simulations analysis.

ANSYS is an engineering simulations software company and we offer a comprehensive range of engineering simulation solutions. ANSYS has offered native, bidirectional integration with the most popular CAD systems for more than 12 years. One can use existing native CAD geometry directly, without translation to IGES or other intermediate geometry formats. ANSYS also provides integration into the CAD menu bar, making it simple to launch ANSYS simulation technologies directly from any CAD system.

We also provide High Performance Computing (HPC) technology for customers to do bigger, more detailed and more accurate simulations in short time using multiprocessor computers.

What are your plans for raising awareness of your products and its benefits in India?

Several activities are carried out to promote our products in the market. We conduct seminars, workshops and conferences in various cities in India. We recently concluded knowledge intensive seminars in Pune and Kolkata during April and May 2012. We had high presence from automotive, industrial equipment, mining and process industry professionals for these day-long events.

We also offer 1 to 5 days training sessions at our sales offices across country depending on the topic. One can find details about these sessions on ANSYS India website.

We also conduct free webinars for benefit of customers periodically. Anyone interested can register to participate in these interactive online sessions.

How is the response to the webinars conducted by ANSYS India?

Very good. We conducted a series of webinar for Indian engineering professionals on the launch of ANSYS 14.0 release in Feb & March this year. The response for these virtual events was overwhelming with more 600 plus engineers benefiting from these webinars.

How is your company’s collaboration with academic institutions in India?

We have academic partnerships in place with IITs, reputed Universities and engineering colleges throughout the country. To overcome the shortage of CAE manpower, we have developed a number of creative approaches to train the next generation of engineers, such as project sponsorships, student competitions and hands-on programs.

We offer sponsorships for academic projects for engineering students by paying between Rs. 25, 000 – 50, 000 to individual or a group project. The winners are awarded certificates from ANSYS and given an opportunity to present their work at the ANSYS Annual Users Conference. The primary objective of this innovative program is to develop technology and engineering skills, improve employability in the industry as well as benefit ANSYS to enhance its collaboration with students.

We are also a key sponsor for SAE BAJA and SAE SUPRA competitions. This is in order to provide the next generation engineering students with an opportunity to gain vital practical experience by putting together an off-road and F-1 vehicle respectively and demonstrate their engineering skills in front of the top leaders and recruiters of the auto industry.

Does ANSYS have any Re-sellers for educational products?
Yes, we do have Channel Partners (Re-sellers) who sell educational products. In India they are Innovent Engineering,  ATeN Systems and Technology Pvt Ltd., and Entuple Technologies.

Please update our readers on latest ANSYS v14.0?

ANSYS 14.0 provides a great number of new and advanced features that deliver solutions to amplify engineering, simulate most complex engineered products, and drive innovation with high-performance computing (HPC).
There are lots of new features in version 14.0 to deliver additional physics depth and breadth that can be scaled to meet the changing needs of users. The advances have been developed with feedback from our most innovative customers, developing a comprehensive solution for simulation driven product development.

What are ANSYS plans to expand in tier I and II cities in India?

From a sales perspective we are reaching out into these markets already. Naturally we will continue to aggressively position ANSYS in Tier I and Tier II cities in India where many medium scale industries are present and growing.

I would like to thank Dr. Nande for his time. If you have any questions for Dr. Nande or for DailyCADCAM, please write to me on sachin@dailycadcam.com and we will be glad to answer.

Jeff Ray Leaving Dassault!!

Read news on some website that Jeff Ray is leaving Dassault Systems and joining Ventyx, an ABB company as CEO.

He was working as executive vice president of geographic operations at DS after he served as CEO of DS SolidWorks from 2007 to 2011.

New position was specially created for him by DS after Bertrand Sicot took over as CEO of DS SolidWorks in Jan 2011.

He started working as VP geographic operations from Jan 2011, his work was to empower the Dassault Systems local teams to serve customers’ and partners’ growing needs and fully exploit the market growth potential.

I was surprised to read the news as the link given to news took me to Jeff’s LinkedIn profile. He has updated his current job profile as “CEO at Ventyx, an ABB Company” So; I tried searching for the official announcement on Dassault’s website. But, there is no official news or blog post confirming this.

It is quite surprising to see his updated profile on social media before any official announcement. You can still find Jeff’s profile in the board of directors on DS site and nothing about him on Ventyx site!

Confused!!

His tenure as CEO DS SolidWorks was very successful with record growth. It reflected through media, blogs etc, but never heard about his work as VP geographic operations in media.

Best wishes to Jeff for his new assignment.

Thanks.

No more on Facebook!

On June 1, 2012 at 2.30 pm I was automatically logged out of my Facebook account. I tried to re-enter using my user name and password. And, was surprised to see the message from FB that my account is disabled

Disabled - Fake Account

I felt, very sad for losing my 2693 friends. The list includes my school friends, college friends, friends from my village, CAD professionals! Actually, it is because of FB, I was able to meet my old friends after long years. FB gave me platform to interact with them, enjoy sharing day-to-day activity, looking out what’s happening in their life and many happy moments through quick sharing!
Putting me out of FB is not so heart touching, but not able to see my friends for sometime is really sad part.

Now let me summarize what I did with the FB. I joined FB in 2010. I was impressed with the features, UI it had compared to orkut. I am working for internet based CAD media company so social networking is part of my daily life to interact/share information with my users, friends.

The worst part what FB did with me is not giving any warning before disabling my profile. The say “Severity of the violation” is high so no need to inform user.

I ask FB; please let me know the crime I did? What severe violation I did? I did not take FB as time pass site to share cartoons, marriage invitations, party invitations, did not abuse any friend, never wrote a abusing post, never commented without leaving my boundary.

Few, friends working in design field use to tell me that your FB profile is like magazine for them. I have guided many students for selecting proper career in CAD/CAM through FB.

Work I did using FB.

  1. -          Shared information related to CAD, CAM,CAE, CFD products on my profile after being permitted to do so by vendors
  2. -          Connected more than 2000 design professionals worldwide and have discussion with them on professional level
  3. -          Created “Happy CADing – Design Professionals Group”  one of the biggest group for CAD engineers on FB with 1685 users at present from every reputed company like Siemens PLM, PTC, DS SolidWorks, TTL, TCE, TATA, Autodesk, Mahindra, Bajaj, etc.
  4. -          I shared CAD event related info on my group on request from vendors/ companies only
  5. -          Created “Shivajians –SSPMS Boys” group with around 500 users and brought together my school friends, which helped us in organizing annual old boys meeting.
  6. -          I was active user on every group related to CAD, CFD
  7. -          I tried my best to share info on online learning, CAD institutes, Design schools with students
  8. -          I created event invitations for CAD events, virtual events, seminars and send request only to CAD professionals
  9. -          I got large number “LIKE” clicks for my postings always
  10. -          I tried to encourage friends to share meaningful info on FB
  11. - Never posted unauthorized commercial communication

If doing all this is CRIME according to FB than what they want me to do on their site. Should I do a TIME PASS by posting.
  1. -          Cartoons on politicians
  2. -          Lot of unnecessary images, posts
  3. -          Out of box Comments using rubbish language
  4. -          Invite friends to birthday parties, parties, movies
  5. -          Should I play Games
  6. -          Use unnecessary apps

If this is what FB expects from user. I feel happy that I am out of it! I think the ‘Program’ written to track violation found my profile different then other users! If this is to happen in future with other serious FB users. I think the network is heading towards end!

I don’t want to waste my time writing more on this topic. FB is too big as a company and I am too small to criticise them.

But, will not reopen a new account on FB again.

I am now worried that who would take care of removing unwanted posts on my ‘happy CADing’ group on FB and how they will approve new requests.

Anyway! Friends you can find me on Twitter, Linkedin with lot of updates on CAD industry.

Thanks for reading.
Happy CADing

-      The grand finale of the mentor-based program FTC India 2011 – 2012 witnessed over 100 participants from different parts of India for the Robotic Competition -

Pune – 20th February, 2012: PTC (NASDAQ: PMTC), the product development company, today extended its congratulations to the award winning team at the  grand finale of  FIRST® Tech Challenge India 2011 – 2012 Robotic Competition held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Stadium, Balewadi, Pune. In riposte to the call to bolster STEM education in India among the children and to build the innovators of tomorrow, PTC launched the Second Season of FIRST® Tech Challenge on June 8th2011 in Mumbai, in partnership with FIRST® and Techtronics Education. This season of FTC India culminated with the finale in Pune on 19th February 2012.

A competition like FIRST® Tech Challenge is instrumental in providing students the opportunity to exhibit and hone their creative talent under the supervision of industry experts while providing an international platform for students who wish to contribute and excel in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This year’s competition saw a significant traction from the students, academicians, noted Scientists and social Enthusiasts.
With over 10, 000 students participating from all over India the competition based on the game Bowled Over! was a huge success. The winners of this competition, Team S.M. Tech from St. Mary’s High School, Pune will now have the opportunity to travel to USA and compete with students from across the globe at the FTC World Championship in April 2012.

“We are extremely proud and happy to hold FIRST® Tech Challenge in India to help in cultivating the engineers for tomorrow, who would address the imperative demands of the future. The atmosphere at the venue was filled with enthusiasm and the diligence with which the students were working and the team spirit was commendable. With India now thriving to be a land of innovation at a global platform competitions like the FIRST® Tech Challenge will help us create budding innovators”, said Rafiq Somani, Area Vice President and Country Manager, PTC India.
