Thanks Prof. Sham Tickoo

CADCIM Technologies, a pioneer in the field of CAD/CAM textbooks, announces the release of the following textbooks by Prof. Sham Tickoo.
SolidWorks 2009 for Designers (Pages: 1008, Price: $59)
NX 6 for Designers (Pages: 656, Price: $55)
Solid Edge ST for Designers (Pages: 720, Price: $55)

I thank Prof. Sham Tickoo for new releases of all these CAD software books, SolidWorks for "Designers Release 2005" was my first book from author, As I did my engineering from small town in India no CAD-CAM courses were available near-by except AutoCAD. So most students use to go for Prof. Sham Tickoo books on Pro/E, SolidWorks, and believe me or not no teacher/guidance is needed to learn basics, advance features using Prof. Sham Tickoo's books. Which provides complete, easy to understand material with appropriate images to explain concept or feature completely. After completing engineering many got job as design engineers and I know they always feel great honor for writer.

It's good to get book on synchronous technology for NX 6, Solid Edge, Which will help designers, students to know more about upcoming new technology in CAD.

Price for books is too low compared to content. Also available in an electronic format. find it on http://www.cadcim.com/students/students.htm

Again thanks to Prof. Sham Tickoo, as he too must be not aware what he has done, and changed life of many engineering students from India.

PDXpert - Free PLM Application for Download

I came across a cool PLM application PDXpert, free to use solution! Small companies can go for it.
Vendor details: PDXpert product lifecycle management software to ensure that your organization's design information is accurate, reliable, controlled and available throughout the entire product lifecycle by efficiently managing product data and processes. PDXpert PLM software offers the most useful capabilities of high-end PLM software solutions, but without their complexity and expense.

PDXpert PLM software is a simple, flexible PLM solution that merges the principal features and capabilities from earlier product data management systems (PDMS), CAD data file managers, configuration management tools, and engineering drawing management systems (EDMS).
PDXpert PLM software is specifically tailored for growing companies to address these functions:
Parts list management and rules-based automatic document and part numbering system
Bill of materials / product structure management
Engineering drawing management an management, including engineering change request (ECR) forms and engineering change order (ECO) forms, as well as change workflow for formally approved document control for requirement, design, process, support and other engineering data
Electronic file repository that permits attaching files to parts, documents and change forms
Changing and releasing new and revised product data
Supplier sources management and approved parts identification
Materials content identification for regulatory compliance
Custom part and document data definitions
Multi-user secured access, including 'electronic signature'
Data export to downstream ERP/SCM/CRM systems
Source for download......

PLM .....Solution to Overcome Down Economy!

PLM is critical to help companies accelerate time to market, extend returns form products by quickly introducing market driven enhancements, increase product profitability through reduced warranty costs and optimizing manufacturing processes and resources, reduce build costs by minimizing costly prototypes and eliminating manufacturing errors, reuse knowledge to gain efficiencies in processes and eliminate non-value processes.

PTC Q1 Profit Drops 53% - AP - You can guess by reading such revenue drop news how badly it must have affect Manufacturing, service industry. When CAD solution giant itself has such down turn.
Arena PLM Q3 Revenue Up 35% - Interesting news PLM Solution provider still going high in down economy. Which clearly indicates PLM is solution!
Global down economy brings new opportunities for the engineering industry – and new challenges. The opportunity to deliver superior products to a worldwide marketplace is balanced with pressures including:
Handling support requirements for new product designs or routine product design services
Rolling out critical product design changes
Extracting business-critical information
Timely inclusion of new datasets into existing mapping systems upgrading existing systems to match new versions
Data migration
Application maintenance
Many Automotive companies are going for PLM solutions and getting better results out of it. But still there is need for cheap, easy to learn, apply solutions.
Companies like Siemens, Dassault are coming forward with great solutions in PLM, Let's hope better time ahead.

Starting with SolidWorks Customization

I hope it will help SolidWorks users to work with basics of customization.
Customization is need for todays tough market and making best out of slowed economy.

Many freshers in CAD are in tough situation and experinced designers in demand!
So as to have something more then experinced people in CAD, better to learn few tricks with
CAD customization using VBA. We will start with basics of Visual Basic programming language with SolidWorks, and then go to .net part.

Hope you enjoy.

Jump to .NET! for CAD Customization

CAD companies leaving behind VB,VBA,LISP,C++ and going for .net (VB/C#) for customization of CAD softwares. But difficult to find good training material! very few events, webinars on customization available. It's amazing experience to get models using programming language. Many design engineers feel like moving toward's customization when nothing remains new in CAD designing software, Just routine work all the life! All not lucky enough to get company trainings. May be below links help somewhat to get started with customization. AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, Pro/E Customization.
